7th Asia-Pacific Conference on Reproductive and Sexual Health and Rights (APCRSHR)
Manila, Philippines, January 21-24, 2014

Theme: Examining achievements, good practices and challenges: Towards a strategic positioning of SRHR for all

On the 20th year after the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in Cairo and the year before the reckoning of the MDG achievements, civil society organizations in collaboration with government policy makers, program implementers, and development partners would gather at the Philippine International Convention Center on January 21-24,2014 for the 7th Asia Pacific Conference on Reproductive and Sexual Health and Rights. This conference would provide an opportunity for the participants to examine the region’s performance, current good practices for diverse population segments (adolescents and youth, women of reproductive age, men,and the elderly), the roles and accountability of different stakeholders, as well as lessons learned. issues and challenges in realizing the ICPD Program of Action and in attaining the SRHR-related MDGs. This gathering would also generate new paradigms, innovative ideas and strategies that would address emerging SRHR issues and challenges beyond 2015.

The specific objectives of the conference are as follows:

  • To revisit the ICPD-POA, MDGs, and other SRHR-related commitments of the Asia Pacific countries;

  • To systematically review the performance of the Asia Pacific region,sub-regions, and countries including the good SRHR practices and lessons learned for diverse groups and social settings to address the ICPD-POA and in meeting their commitments to achieve the MDGs (4, 5 a & b, and 6);

  • To identify the past, current and future roles and accountability of different stakeholders particularly NGOs, national and local governments,and development partners in achieving key SRHR results;

  • To elicit new paradigms, innovative ideas, and strategies that would meaningfully address emerging SRHR issues, challenges,  accountability of stakeholders beyond 2015   and within the Sustainable Development Goals[SDGs] framework;

  • To foster new alliances and to strengthen partnerships and cooperation in SRHR endeavors among diverse stakeholders from the region.
